In the winter and spring, the lake is stocked with rainbow trout, mostly the standard 12-inchers, but some larger. The lake record is a remarkable 21 lb, 4 oz, so needless to say the Lake Chabot holds big trout. Trolling and shoreline bait-dunking near the marina are popular methods for tapping into these fish.

The lake is also renowned for its largemouth bass, which are among the largest in the Bay Area. The current lake record is an impressive 17 lb, 10 oz. Fishing for these giant bass can be a tricky endeavor, as they can be quite elusive. If you do hook a trophy, it is recommended to practice catch and release so the fishery remains strong.

Lake Chabot also supports sizable populations of catfish and sturgeon... both growing quite large as well. There’s an obvious theme at this lake... Big Fish!

Privately owned boats, other than kayaks and canoes, aren't permitted to launch at Lake Chabot. However, boat rentals are available.
