Lake Chabot’s trout bite is picking up steam after a recent plant of Lassen and lightning trout. It’s still not on fire, but patient anglers tossing Mice Tails or soaking PowerBait are getting fish. Trolling might be the best bet, though, for covering ground faster and finding active fish.

For bass, the spawn bite is kicking in, and some chunky largemouth females are pushing into the shallows. Senkos are getting bit, and so are swimbaits and small spinners. The finesse, soft-plastic bite is definitely where it's at right now.

Water’s still high, and shoreline access is tight in spots. Algae is showing near the marina, but the rest of the lake isn't bad. A few catfish are starting to stir too, but it’s early.

Trout are biting great. Powerbait is working very well along with mice tails and trout are biting spoons.

Excellent Trout bite

Chabot is delivering a very good trout bite lately, with quality Lassen rainbows in the 3-4 pound range (and bigger) being caught regularly. Anglers are getting them on a mix of spoons, jigs, PowerBait, and nightcrawlers. With water levels running high, bank fishing is a little tricky, but Marina Cove and Raccoon Point offer solid shoreline access...

Anglers are getting them on a mix of spoons, jigs, PowerBait, and nightcrawlers. With water levels running high, bank fishing is a little tricky, but Marina Cove and Raccoon Point offer solid shoreline access spots.

Meanwhile, largemouth bass are starting to shake off winter and move into prespawn mode, easing into the shallows. While the bite isn’t wide open yet, swimbaits, blade baits, and drop-shots are starting to catch fish. As water temps rise, expect the bass action to heat up fast.

Catfish anglers are still finding a nice bite as well on cut bait.
