Calero Reservoir is a popular recreational lake in Santa Clara County known for its excellent bass fishing with big fish (10 pounds and up) and good crappie fishing. Mammoth-sized carp have been pulled from the lake as well. But beware... the fish here are contaminated with mercury, so don't eat! Calero can be a hub for boating enthusiasts and water skiers, with crowds becoming a hindrance to anglers on warm weekends. However, the lake is big enough to offer the possibility of escaping the crowds. Shore access for fishermen isn’t very good, so...

Calero Reservoir is a popular recreational lake in Santa Clara County known for its excellent bass fishing with big fish (10 pounds and up) and good crappie fishing. Mammoth-sized carp have been pulled from the lake as well. But beware... the fish here are contaminated with mercury, so don't eat!

Calero can be a hub for boating enthusiasts and water skiers, with crowds becoming a hindrance to anglers on warm weekends. However, the lake is big enough to offer the possibility of escaping the crowds. Shore access for fishermen isn’t very good, so aim to fish from a boat. Boat launch and day-use fees are required.

There’s been a decent bass bite at Calero over the last couple of weeks. As the water cools slightly, the fish are becoming more active, especially with topwater strikes. The best approach right now is to target the heavy weeds with frogs first, then switch to jigs or punching creature baits. Quality fish up to 5 pounds have been reported recently...

There’s been a decent bass bite at Calero over the last couple of weeks. As the water cools slightly, the fish are becoming more active, especially with topwater strikes. The best approach right now is to target the heavy weeds with frogs first, then switch to jigs or punching creature baits. Quality fish up to 5 pounds have been reported recently.

Plenty of bluegill and the occasional crappie are being caught near the launch dock and deep in the coves. Jigs, nightcrawlers, or flies.

As the water warms at Calero, the grass is getting thicker, but so are the bass! Quality fish are being caught all over the lake, with a couple of reports of fish just over 7 pounds. Stick baits, creature baits, and jigs have been producing the biggest bites. Finesse soft-plastics, either Texas-rigged or drop-shotted, are working for numbers. There...

Stick baits, creature baits, and jigs have been producing the biggest bites. Finesse soft-plastics, either Texas-rigged or drop-shotted, are working for numbers. There has also been a consistent frog bite, especially during the transitional parts of the day.
