As the water warms at Calero, the grass is getting thicker, but so are the bass! Quality fish are being caught all over the lake, with a couple of reports of fish just over 7 pounds. Stick baits, creature baits, and jigs have been producing the biggest bites. Finesse soft-plastics, either Texas-rigged or drop-shotted, are working for numbers. There has also been a consistent frog bite, especially during the transitional parts of the day.

Bass are in spawn mode. Anglers are getting the most action either sight fishing for beds or casting shallow. Crankbaits and soft plastics have been getting the most action. A few big fish have been spotted as well.

Calero needs some warmer weather to really kick off the spring bite. Bass are moving shallower on warmer days, but quickly retreat to deeper water during cold spells. Some smaller bass and crappie are being caught, just not consistently.
