Chesbro Reservoir Fishing Overview

Water Description

Chesbro Reservoir is located in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains west of Morgan Hill. The 232-acre reservoir doesn't allow boats, but shore casting for warm water species can still be very good. Chesbro is known for its giant carp and largemouth bass, along with a modest population of crappie. Its varied shoreline and structure offer plenty of fish habitat, with most of it accessible to fishermen.

Even the smaller bass are nipping at spoons. Water temps are edging into the low 70s, and the lake’s still riding high for late spring.

Anglers are also reporting a fair catfish bite in the evenings on nightcrawlers and chicken livers. Crappie are still on the prowl, targeting small Rapalas and jigs.
