Santa Fe Reservoir Fishing Overview

Sante Fe Reservoir is surrounded by the beautiful Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area, which hosts a myriad of activities for families and outdoor enthusiasts. Needless to say, the area can get quite busy, and this does put stress on the fishery. Fishing can still be very good, but the bite can shut off entirely during crowded weekends. Rainbow trout are stocked in the winter, while the warmer months host a solid largemouth bass bite. Many anglers also find success fishing for both flathead and channel catfish during the hot summer evenings.

Spring has arrived at Santa Fe. Water temps have jumped into the low 60s, and with air temp highs in the upper 80s expected next week, the warming trend should continue. This has triggered bass into full prespawn behavior, including the bigger females easing into shallow zones. Bass are visibly cruising all around the lake. Drop-shotting Roboworms...

Drop-shotting Roboworms in brown or green colors has been very productive for fish in the 1-2 pound range. A few anglers are getting a reaction bite on white/chart spinnerbaits and Rat-L-Traps... higher quality fish too.

Trout limits are coming as Santa Fe received a CDFW stock this week, with another projected for next week.

1 Rainbow Trout

Persistence and preparation paid off. Caught this 16" long trout this morning about 9:15 am in the shady side of lake using a carolina rig. Proves there are still some trout swimming around in there!
