Spring has arrived at Santa Fe. Water temps have jumped into the low 60s, and with air temp highs in the upper 80s expected next week, the warming trend should continue. This has triggered bass into full prespawn behavior, including the bigger females easing into shallow zones. Bass are visibly cruising all around the lake.
Drop-shotting Roboworms in brown or green colors has been very productive for fish in the 1-2 pound range. A few anglers are getting a reaction bite on white/chart spinnerbaits and Rat-L-Traps... higher quality fish too.
Trout limits are coming as Santa Fe received a CDFW stock this week, with another projected for next week.
Persistence and preparation paid off. Caught this 16" long trout this morning about 9:15 am in the shady side of lake using a carolina rig. Proves there are still some trout swimming around in there!
Mid-morning Carolina rigs with scented powerbait and casted spinners on north shore with rocks and vegetation. No luck. Moved to dock in afternoon. Same strategy, same result. Other anglers were present on and off throughout the day. Lake has some buzz but strikes appeared elusive today.
