Dixon Lake Fishing Overview

Water Description

Dixon Lake is known for its largemouth bass fishing, including a notable giant that weighed in at 25 pounds a couple of decades ago. Although this fish, identified by a distinct black spot on its head, was not officially recognized due to being foul-hooked, it highlighted the lake's potential for producing record-sized bass. The lake's robust forage options and ideal environmental conditions contribute to the growth of large bass. Dixon is annually stocked with trout, supporting its strong winter fishery. Dixon is annually stocked with trout, supporting its strong winter fishery. The trout population also serves as a crucial food source for the trophy largemouth bass. The east side of the lake is commonly known as the best area for trout fishing.

Good Trout bite

Dixon just received another 1,000 pounds of trout today, adding to an already very good bite for smaller fish. Jigs remain the mainstay for limits, but some anglers are picking off fish with small spoons and floating nightcrawlers. Water temps are in the mid to high 60s, so trout action may taper off quickly once things push into the 70s. Bass...

Bass action has been good, especially for 1–2 pounders pushed tight into the shallows. Small swimbaits, dropshots, and Texas-rigged worms or creature baits are getting bit. A few 3–6 pound fish have been spotted cruising the banks but have been tough to fool. With fresh trout in the water, now’s a good time to break out the big trout-pattern swimbaits and take a shot at a giant.

Dixon Lake is hot right now for both springtime bass and rainbow stockers. Trout have been getting planted about every two weeks since the new year, with another 1,000 pounds dropped last Wednesday. Limits are coming near the buoy line and in the back of coves on PowerBait and pink Floating Trout Worms.

The bass bite at Dixon is officially on—for both size and numbers. Drophots and Senkos are producing good numbers up to 3 pounds, while bigger fish are coming on glide baits and topwater frogs along the tule edges. A 6+ pounder was caught a couple days ago. Expect the bite to stay hot as bass feed up and ease into spawn patterns.
