Dixon Lake Fishing Overview

Water Description

Dixon Lake is known for its largemouth bass fishing, including a notable giant that weighed in at 25 pounds a couple of decades ago. Although this fish, identified by a distinct black spot on its head, was not officially recognized due to being foul-hooked, it highlighted the lake's potential for producing record-sized bass. The lake's robust forage options and ideal environmental conditions contribute to the growth of large bass. Dixon is annually stocked with trout, supporting its strong winter fishery.

The trout population also serves as a crucial food source for the trophy largemouth bass. The east side of the lake is commonly known as the best area for trout fishing.

Private boats are not permitted on Dixon Lake, and rented electric boats are restricted to a speed limit of 5 mph.

Catfish stocks are reportedly set to begin in July, but don't wait... anglers are already hooking into some giant double-digit fish off the docks near the boat ramp right now.

The bass bite remains good. Fish are still pushed up shallow in the backs of coves, tucked under docks, and holding near structure in 10–15 feet. Finesse is the move: wacky-rigged Senkos, Flukes, and Texas-rigged worms worked close to the bank are producing solid fish up to 4 pounds. Morning and evening are your best windows... although expect that window to tighten as water temps climb through June and July.

Excellent Trout bite

Weekly trout stocks continue at Dixon, and the bite has been very consistent since the new year. Pier 1 and Trout Cove have been excellent spots for catching limits. PowerBait is the go-to, but mini jigs are also producing very well. There have been some giant catfish pulled out of Dixon on mackerel, garlic shrimp, and chicken livers. The winter...

There have been some giant catfish pulled out of Dixon on mackerel, garlic shrimp, and chicken livers. The winter bass bite was very good in December on jerkbaits or dropshots deep, but reports have cooled off in January.
