Lake Success Fishing Overview

Water Description

With its abundance of aquatic food, structure, and near-ideal water temperatures, Lake Success is the perfect environment for growing monster bass. And “monster” doesn’t just mean double-digits, it signifies bass in the upper teens, even nearing a staggering 20 pounds. Over the years, the lake has been well-maintained and preserved through strict regulations, allowing only two bass under 15 inches to be kept. Its shallower depths enable the lake to warm faster than nearby bodies of water, which extends the growth period for bass. Crappie...

Over the years, the lake has been well-maintained and preserved through strict regulations, allowing only two bass under 15 inches to be kept. Its shallower depths enable the lake to warm faster than nearby bodies of water, which extends the growth period for bass. Crappie, catfish, and bluegill round out this warmer-water fishery... and trout are often stocked in the colder months.

The lake features a campground, marina, picnic areas, and a convenience store for fishing supplies, with boat and watercraft rentals available. There is a fee for boat launch and day use.

There are visible groups of bass holding in 5-10 feet of water, tight to drop-offs near primary and secondary points. Live sonar has shown pods of 3-5 fish in that zone. Some nice 4-6 pound fish have been pulled out in these areas on crankbaits, jigs with craw trailers, and dropshots. At the same time, some fish are still hanging deeper in 20 to 30 feet, with a few coming up on A-rigs and lipless cranks.

Crappie around the marina are coming on jigs tipped with crawler pieces or redworms. Catfish is still a legitimate option on mackerel and garlic shrimp. The lake remains about a third full.

Early bait movement is driving most of the action at Success, with balls of shad pulling bass up into the submerged trees during the first and last hour of light. Crankbaits, underspins, and walking baits are all working well during that window. Surface temps are holding in the low 80s, and with triple-digit air temps pushing mid-day, deep water...

Crankbaits, underspins, and walking baits are all working well during that window. Surface temps are holding in the low 80s, and with triple-digit air temps pushing mid-day, deep water and shaded cover are key once the sun peaks. Focus on main lake points and isolated rockpiles, with slower presentations like small jigs, dropshots, or ned rigs.

Crappie are sticking to deeper structure and still biting fairly well on small jigs. Catfish are active too, but mostly after dark on chicken liver, prawns, and mackerel.
