My wife & I went to Lake Kaweah today, our first fishing trip of the year. We had a good day fishing I caught 7 & my wife caught 4 bass. The biggest being 3 lbs on K&L custom jigs & Robo worms. The bigger ones were full of eggs with their fat bellies. All CNR of course.

With water levels at a seasonal low, Lake Kaweah is still offering decent fishing. Bass are scattered throughout, from the back of coves to deeper areas off main and secondary points. Anglers are finding the most action in 20+ feet of water for spotted bass, with finesse techniques like drop-shotting small soft plastics. Deep diving crankbaits are also getting a few quality largemouth in the same areas. Crappie and catfish action has been fair, with crappie hitting jigs and catfish taking live worms or prawns off the bottom.

Fluctuating water levels have thrown off an otherwise solid start to the season, but Kaweah is rebounding lately. The spotted bass bite seems to have unlocked, and it has been reported that almost any finesse soft-plastic will get the job done. Most fish are holding near steep drop-offs in 10-15 feet of water. Senkos have also been hot for largemouth bass, and small grubs are getting crappie to bite near deeper submerged brush piles.
