Normally, Lake Davis would be frozen over right now, but thanks to a warm, wet winter, there’s still open water to fish from the bank. Folks are primarily using Powerbait, Gulp Pinch Crawlers, and other scented bait... casting far out into sunny areas of the lake. Quality fish are being caught (16-18 inches), but fish are sluggish with the water...
Normally, Lake Davis would be frozen over right now, but thanks to a warm, wet winter, there’s still open water to fish from the bank. Folks are primarily using Powerbait, Gulp Pinch Crawlers, and other scented bait... casting far out into sunny areas of the lake. Quality fish are being caught (16-18 inches), but fish are sluggish with the water temperature in the low 30s. Stick to bait, as those casting spoons or spinners are finding very limited action.
Another trout stocking is planned for this week by CDFW. Overall, action has been very good. Trollers are running spoons or blade/crawler combinations from 15 feet to the surface. Shore casters and throwing powerbait or nightcrawlers.
Boat access is still unavailable due to the snow, but warming temperatures in the coming weeks should change that quickly. Anglers are still finding some success from shore, primarily for rainbows.
