A lot of fish are still in prespawn… cruising and hunting the shoreline, with some holding off points in deeper water, but a good number are already on beds.
Plenty of anglers are sight fishing the shoreline with T-rigged worms or small jigs... some good 2-3 pounders have come this way. Other folks chasing a bigger bite are throwing Beaver style baits into the tules, and hooking into some bigger females. Overall, fish are being picked up all over the lake, but the common thread is slow worked soft plastics. Not much reported success on reaction baits.
Water temps are in the low 80s at Miramar, keeping fish sluggish and deep throughout most of the day. Light line and slow finesse rigs are getting the most attention... black and blue dropshots, Senkos, and Ned rigs fished around structure in 15 to 20 feet have been the most productive. The last trout stock was in late February, but CDFW is set to drop another batch this week. Get after them fast—last time, they were fished out within a couple of weeks.
