Fishing at Lake Miramar

Lake Miramar spans a mere 160 acres but stands unmatched for large bass. The lake record at Miramar is a whopping 20 pounds, 15 ounces (although the story goes this fish wasn't caught, it was found dead on the shore. No one knows for sure). Miramar is stocked yearly with rainbow trout, serving as a near-perfect food source for trophy bass. The hold-over stockers that avoid becoming dinner can grow...

The hold-over stockers that avoid becoming dinner can grow very big as well.

Beyond bass and trout, Miramar is home to giant channel and blue catfish (lake record channel cat is 31.4 lb), as well as redear sunfish and bluegill.

The shoreline is only four miles around, and while it is possible to walk the entire lake, fishing from shore can be challenging due to the widespread tule growth. Fishing pressure can be constant due to its close proximity to San Diego.

The word is that smaller baits are getting the most action, albeit more for numbers than size. Drop shots, small jerk baits, and 3-4 inch swim baits have been the best. Once the post-spawners settle into their summer patterns, a solid morning topwater bite is expected to unlock.
