Spring Lake Fishing Overview

Water Description

Spring Lake, sometimes referred to as Santa Rosa Creek Reservoir, has a bit of a legend to it. Back in the 90s, a local angler caught what could have been a world-record largemouth bass. He weighed it on a simple bathroom scale, which pointed to 25 lbs, before releasing it. Record or not, it was proof that Spring Lake produced giant largemouth. Unfortunately, the CDFW stopped stocking trout there in the early 2000s which had a negative effect on average and maximum size of Spring Lake bass. While the days of snagging another record-breaker might be in the past, Spring Lake still offers decent bass fishing. Just be prepared: the local fishing pressure and thick weed growth can make it a challenge to catch fish consistently.

Hit Spring Lake yesterday on the kayak. The whole lake is covered with grass. Water levels are low, and clarity isn't the best. Clarity was better near the grass. Fished for two hours, had one top water blow up but missed it. Spoke to two other anglers, both only caught a couple of small ones. Seemed like a tough day for everyone on the water.
