Set in the foothills of the Gavilan Mountains, Anderson Lake beckons anglers with over 1,000 acres of fisherman-friendly water, featuring a variety of warm-water species. The largemouth bass fishery is most notable and can be considered one of the best in the Bay Area.

Spring is when Anderson Lake bass become extremely active as boating activity is at its lowest. The fish aren't heavily pressured yet and will strike a variety of lures and presentations. The south end of the lake can be best during this time, but as the weather warms, bass typically disperse and move to deeper water, suspending off points and dropoffs in 10-20 feet of water.

Crappie fishing can be very good as well, more often around the dam area. Carp and catfish also inhabit Anderson Lake, and provide consistent action, especially during summer mornings and evenings.

Warmer months bring a lot of recreation, including motor boats that churn up water around most of the lake. This can disturb fishermen who are looking for a quieter experience. Consider weekdays and early mornings to avoid crowds.
