Water Description

The Petaluma River is a tidal river that flows into San Pablo Bay and offers good fishing for striped bass—especially during the fall. White sturgeon, leopard sharks, and bat rays are also available closer to the bay. The tides significantly influence fishing conditions, and the optimal tides for fishing vary depending on the season. Popular fishing spots include the public docks in downtown Petaluma, Schollenberger Park, and the river’s mouth near San Pablo Bay, with key structures like bridges and docks often holding fish.

Striped Bass

A lot of smaller stripers are currently moving up the river. The action is there, but not much size. Soaking anchovies or grass shrimp has been working best. A couple of bigger fish were pulled out this month on swimbaits... worth trying if you're tired of catching dinks.

Lake Chabot’s trout bite is picking up steam after a recent plant of Lassen and lightning trout. It’s still not on fire, but patient anglers tossing Mice Tails or soaking...

Went 5/6 on some spotted and smallies. Lots of bedding activity but not very much interest in the bite. Fished a lipless crank bait and drop shot had equal luck.
