Coyote Lake is a recreational hotspot spanning 449 acres and surrounded by almost 800 acres of parkland. It’s renowned as of the best fisheries in the bay area, known for its thriving warm-water populations of largemouth bass, crappie, and carp, as well as robust cold-water stockings of rainbow trout. Coyote Lake is a recreational hotspot spanning 449 acres and surrounded by almost 800 acres of parkland. It’s renowned as of the best fisheries in the bay area, known for its thriving warm-water populations of largemouth bass, crappie, and carp, as well as robust cold-water stockings of rainbow trout.

Late winter / early spring is when the trout bite really gets going. Late spring kicks off bass season, which can be excellent for both numbers and size. To maintain the lake's high-quality fishing, there's a widely endorsed informal agreement among anglers to release larger catches back into the water.

The boating season at Coyote Lake is open from mid-April to mid-October. However, low water levels may force the county to temporarily close the boat ramp, so be sure to stay informed on current conditions. And, while the lake is officially closed to boating in the colder months, anglers can still find success targeting trout from shore.

Folks are still finding decent bass action, especially in the mornings on top water baits or shakey heads. A lot of smaller fish to wade through, but a few 4-5 pounders have been caught recently with 2-3 pounders even more common. Bluegill and crawfish are the primary forage right now, so adjust your bait and color accordingly.
