Huntington Lake is located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, surrounded by the Kaiser Wilderness, which provides ideal terrain for hiking and camping. The fishing here can also be very good for both trout and salmon.
As soon as the access road is cleared and the snowplows start rolling in spring, the lake is planted with rainbow trout, providing good catch rates for trollers (shore fishing can be tough). The lake is also planted with thousands of fingerling kokanee salmon, and there are some big but resident brown trout in the lake.
Huntington gets the most pressure during the summer season, but still provides solid action for anglers who know what they are doing (and have a boat). By late October, when the cold weather sets in, everything at the lake tends to shut down for the winter.
