Set in Riverside County's foothill country, Lake Skinner is quite the anglers haven. No physical water contact and max boat speeds of 10mph limit the amount of recreational activity. Skinner is known for its very good bass fishing, particularly striped and largemouth bass. From late spring to early fall, when the temperatures rise, the lake produces both fish bass size and catch quantity. The biggest striped bass pulled out of the lake was over 39 lb, and for largemouth, over 14 lb. So needless to say, trophy size giants lurk in these waters.

Rainbow trout are plentifully stocked in late fall and winter. So if trout is more your style, don't hesitate to throw spinners and powerbait for these stockers.

The lake is kept pristine due to its tight rules and regulations, so make sure to review them before hitting the water.

Skinner is hot right now, with a ton of good action for both bass and catfish. Bass guys are running a variety of baits along the Tule line landing both quantity and quality, with 3-4 pounders not being uncommon. Senkos, dropshots, and T-rigged creature baits rigged weedless are all working tossed as close to cover as possible. The topwater bite has been very good as well in the morning off points and rocky areas on walking baits. A few giant stripers were caught last week this way near the dam too.

The catfish bite is probably the most consistent all around on mackerel, livers, and garlic shrimp. Evening is best, although there's been plenty of midday action.

Skinner has been serving up an excellent bass bite over the last few weeks. Nothing huge, largest reported catch peaking around 5 pounds, but plenty of 1-2 pound fish all around the lake. Pink and purple drop shot worms are putting up good numbers in 10+ feet of water on the east end. Others are ripping rattle traps in open water at fish keying in on bait. There's also decent flip bite, with a few nice 3-pounders pulled out of the tules on beaver and craw style soft plastics. Not a lot of bedded fish seen yet, but as water temps hit the high 60s to low 70s, that should change.

The last trout stock was the second week in March, and the bite has been slowing with rising water temps.
