But the bass bite has been really fun for those getting on the water, especially in the early mornings and late evenings. Bone-colored Spook or Chappo style topwater baits are crushing fish in the backs of coves and off points as they chase bait during these low-light periods. Fish are still being caught midday around deeper rock structure on drop-shots and T-rigged worms.
The low water levels have been a concern for quite some time... and initiatives are in place to build a new 200 ft launch ramp for better year-round access. A new paved road into the lake has also been approved.
Water temps are warm at Hodges, with midday numbers up to 85 degrees. That narrows the best windows to mornings and evenings, though reports mention midday anglers are still getting fish. The morning reaction bite has been excellent on crankbaits and jerkbaits. Bass and crappie are keying on shad, but they're also pushing up shallow on silversides...

The morning reaction bite has been excellent on crankbaits and jerkbaits. Bass and crappie are keying on shad, but they're also pushing up shallow on silversides. Some really good reports are coming from the dam area, with slab crappie and 3+ pound bass caught early on jerkbaits.
Otherwise, midday anglers are leaning on finesse stuff... drop-shots, Senkos and Texas-rigged worms... worked on points and deeper structure.
Water temps are up in the 80s at Jennings, and catfish stockings continue. The last load went in July 30, following two earlier July stocks... and the next one is planned for August 17. Night fishing has been best for these cats... mackerel, shrimp and chicken livers soaked late on Friday or Saturday night, when the lake stays open until midnight...

Bass action has been very good in the mornings off weed lines, rocky points and transition zones on drop-shots, swimbaits and smaller jigs (worked around rock). Reports mention a 10+ pound largemouth caught recently on a live shiner.
Plenty of bluegill action around weeds in the shallows on redworms.
