Water temps are sitting in the mid-high 70s at Miramar, and water levels are extremely high. The lake edges are covered with live and dead tule, which can be good or bad depending on how you plan to fish the lake. T-rigged soft plastic worms, Senkos, and punch baits are all getting fish if you can throw them deep into those tules... but getting into the back of these areas can be tough in bigger boats. Kayaks, small boats, and shore guys have the best access. A good number of fish are in open water as well, hitting jerkbaits, Flukes, and live shiners which you can buy at nearby tackle shops (Lemon and East County). Not a lot of big fish being caught... mostly 1-2 pounders with the occasional 3-4.
The spawn is officially over at Miramar, and water temps are now sitting in the mid-70s... but the bite remains very consistent. Water levels are up, and there's plenty of cover around the edges of the lake. Fish are holding in tules, under docks, and pushing out to points in slightly deeper water. With the water running very clear right now, finesse and light line are the way to go. Anglers are pitching Senkos and Texas-rigged worms right into the tules and pulling out some solid 2-3 pound fish. Dropshots are getting good numbers, though most fish are around a pound. Miramar has a reputation for big bass, and while the fish are there, the top end right now seems to be peaking around 4 pounds.
The last trout stock of the season came in mid-April, and trout fishing is just about done. A handful of anglers are still probing deeper zones with bait and picking up a few fish, but with water temps now in the low-to-mid 70s, even that sparse bite won't last long. Catfish stocks are reportedly set to begin in July, but don't wait... anglers are already hooking into some giant double-digit fish off the docks near the boat ramp right now.
The bass bite remains good. Fish are still pushed up shallow in the backs of coves, tucked under docks, and holding near structure in 10–15 feet. Finesse is the move: wacky-rigged Senkos, Flukes, and Texas-rigged worms worked close to the bank are producing solid fish up to 4 pounds. Morning and evening are your best windows... although expect that window to tighten as water temps climb through June and July.
