Fishing was tough this morning. Cloud cover lingered all day until about noon, and I didn’t get a single bite while it stayed gray. Once the sun came out and a light breeze picked up, the whole lake seemed to wake up. I could actually see bass cruising tight along the bank. That’s when the bite turned on — I hooked into a solid 5-pounder and...

Once the sun came out and a light breeze picked up, the whole lake seemed to wake up. I could actually see bass cruising tight along the bank. That’s when the bite turned on — I hooked into a solid 5-pounder and followed it up with two 4-pound fish. All three came on a watermelon crawfish bait with the claws dipped in chartreuse.

Had a solid fishing day at Lower Otay Lake! Used a drop shot rig with a Roboworm in a Aaron's Magic color pattern and focused on targeting fish hiding under grass patches in shallow to mid-depth areas. The bite was steady, with fish responding well to the slow, precise presentation near the vegetation. The weather was cloudy all day with occasional...

The bite was steady, with fish responding well to the slow, precise presentation near the vegetation. The weather was cloudy all day with occasional light sprinkles, creating ideal conditions for fishing. The subtle action of the Roboworm on the drop shot setup seemed to be the key to enticing bites. A great day out on the water despite the overcast skies!

After that early catch, there were no more bites, despite spotting schools of trout cruising. Talked with a few nearby anglers and noticed no one else was having much luck either. The fish just weren’t committing.

Landed this trout using the Berkley Atomic Tube in the Grasshopper colorway. The fish were schooling and biting all day! I also caught these two bass off the dock—both were on a bed preparing to spawn. I used a jig with a crawfish trailer, but at first, they were just nipping at the claws. After shortening the trailer, I was able to hook both. The...

I also caught these two bass off the dock—both were on a bed preparing to spawn. I used a jig with a crawfish trailer, but at first, they were just nipping at the claws. After shortening the trailer, I was able to hook both. The water was crystal clear, making for some great sight fishing. The first bass weighed in at 2.2 lbs, and the second was 1.5 lbs.
