Excellent Bass bite
Trout, Bass, Crappie, Carp
Slightly Stained

The warm-water action at Irvine is kicking into gear nicely. Bass have moved up shallow and are in full spawn mode. Most fish are modest, around 1-2 pounds, but there are a few nicer fish in the 3-4 pound range mixed in. Dropshots, live minnows, chatterbaits, and flukes are all working. Most fish are modest, around 1-2 pounds, but there are a few nicer fish in the 3-4 pound range mixed in. Dropshots, live minnows, chatterbaits, and flukes are all working. Crappie fishing is also picking up right now, with slabs moving shallow and actively hitting jigs and mini Rapalas.

If you’re struggling to nail bass or crappie, the carp bite is wide open, as they are in spawn, and can be seen jumping all around the lake—just toss out a kernel of corn and hang on for a wild fight. Trout fishing has quieted down with the last stocking over a month ago, but some are still picking off the occasional holdover.

Excellent Trout bite
Trout, Bass
Slightly Stained

Trout action at Irvine has been hot. OC Parks has been planting trout every week since the start of the year, and fish are still around in good numbers. That said, the usual weekend crowds are out in force, so these fish are seeing plenty of pressure. Reports mention trout stacking up on the outer portions of coves, or pushing out over open water...

Trout action at Irvine has been hot. OC Parks has been planting trout every week since the start of the year, and fish are still around in good numbers. That said, the usual weekend crowds are out in force, so these fish are seeing plenty of pressure. Reports mention trout stacking up on the outer portions of coves, or pushing out over open water and off points. With no more stocks coming this season, the bite will slow over time, but for now, PowerBait, mice tails, and deep-casted spoons are all producing. Most fish are quality, running 1–2 pounds. Meanwhile, the bass bite is starting to pick up a little, with some action on finesse worms and even trout lures. As spring approaches and water temps climb, expect more consistent bass action.
