Lake Balboa Fishing Overview

Water Description

Lake Balboa is a 27-acre man-made lake in the heart of San Fernando Valley. It features a diverse array of warm-water fish, including largemouth bass, catfish, carp, and tilapia. Balboa is highly pressured due to its proximity to such a densely populated area. Though it can still be productive. Using worms as bait has proven effective for many. Given the lake's subpar water quality, catch and release is advised. Boats are restricted to manual propulsion or electric motors; gas motors are not permitted. Bass have been locked on Yamamoto baits... Senkos, Ikas, and Yamatanuki have all been catching solid fish in the 2–3 pound range. If you're primarily looking for numbers, nightcrawlers have been killing it for tilapia, with the occasional bass mixed in. Tilapia reported up to 5 pounds this weekend. Look for bite to stay good for the next month as water temps stay in the low-mid 70s.

Balboa’s kicking out plenty of spring bass, although mostly skinny 1–2 pounders. Bigger fish have been hard to come by. Swimbaits and craw-style plastics are getting bit, especially when worked very tight to the shoreline. Water’s stained, so stick to dark, high-contrast colors like black and blue. Catfish are showing here and there, but the...
