But don’t expect too much tranquility and solace. June lake receives a huge amount of fishing pressure, far more than any other lake in the area. This is due to not only the excellent fishing but the array of amenities readily available.

Each year, June Lake receives stockings of both rainbow trout, as well as cutthroat. Brown and brook trout also inhabit the lake. Holdover rainbows and cutthroats grow quickly year after year, and can reach upwards of 7-8 pounds. Although catching them is not easy. The water is crystal clear, and the fish see a plethora of different lures/baits each year. Often times small changes such as reducing the pound-test of your line can yield big results.

June Lake offers a campground, resort, full-service marina, boat rentals, and likely anything else a visitor could want. Be aware of the 10mph speed limit on the lake, and make sure to check catch limits and regulations.

Big fish was over 8 pounds, with a few 4-5 pounders caught as well. Small 2-inch swimbaits and orange mini jigs were getting some of the bigger fish. The bite should only get...
