Berryessa action continues with the king salmon and rainbow trout bites leading the pack. Similar to our last report, trollers are still using spoons and shad imitation lures at speeds up to 3.5-4 mph with a lot of success.

Bass are easing into their summer mode, moving offshore and chasing bait around the lake. Underspins and spoons are getting bit, as are some soft plastics. A young man also reportedly landed a 12+ pounder this week.

Water levels are still high, and the shad schools continue to be the focus for Berryessa's entire fishery. A few big king salmon (8-10 pounds) were the recent highlight, as the salmon and trout continue to stuff themselves with these baitfish. Spoons and shad imitations are still best for trolling... but some are finding more action at higher speeds between 3-4 mph.

Bass are moving out of the shallows as the spawning season comes to a close. Their foraging interest is now in line with the rest of the game fish at Berryessa... shad.

Bass action is still very good, even with the recent rains. Most fish are still in spawn so look shallow.

Bass can be seen everywhere in the shallows, especially with the crystal clear water conditions. Soft plastics and finesse have been best, although spinnerbaits are also getting bit. Make your casts long... because as soon as you're spotted, your bite rate decreases substantially.

Even though the water temps are rising, trout fishing is still very good. Trollers using Optimizers are finding consistent action. Also grabbing the occasional king salmon.

Crappie are moving shallow to spawn. Target submerged brush piles in quite coves.

Trout action for trollers has been very good, especially for the beautiful Eagle Lake trout. The bite has been primarily shallow in the early morning, but quickly moves to 20+ feet after sunrise. Trolling 3.5mph to 4mph with spoons such as the Speedy Shiner has been the ticket. The bass bite is still hot for those throwing chatterbaits shallow. Other bass anglers are finding success with dropshots or other finesse baits in deeper water (where the bait is).
