Fellas, Went to Whale Rock for a couple of hours after work yesterday. I think were definitely in the post spawn let down as fishing was extremely tough.
What didn't work:
chatterbait spinnerbait, TR stick worm, TR craw bait, wacky worm.
What did work,
hedgehog on a weighted hook. Don't know if it was the different movement or the color or a combination of both. Was able to finally catch a few.
The bite was extremely light, and the fish were noticeably thinner than they were a few weeks ago. Had to fish extemely slowly, almost deadsticking. Be patient.
Sunday was another good day at the lake. Early on, things were a bit tough. I got to WR at about 6:30, and though I missed on a few, I didn't cate one until roughly 9. When the bite did turn on, it came on really nicely. I ended catching a dozen fish. Still using craw baits. Green pumpkin and black/blue. Both seemed to work pretty well. I work the...

As a side note, Please don't be the person that feels they have to stand 8 feet from me when we are both a mile from the gate. It happened to me again this weekend. Set my back pack down, took 3 steps to the right to fish and someone literally walked to within 8-10 feet of me and began casting into the water in which I was fishing. I feel like this happens more than it needs to at WR. I'm a friggin' mile from the gate, which means there is a mile of shoreline to fish. I can't imagine any reason that someone would need to get that close and fish into the same water.
Windy mornings caused some harrowing casts both Saturday and Sunday morning. With that, fishing still remains hot. Finesse fishing remains the best option (at least for me). Both mornings a black/blue Texas rigged craw bait consistently caught fish. Other effective presentations were a shaky head and, of course, wacky rig. 3.5 hours on Saturday and...

3.5 hours on Saturday and I caught 9 fish. the the largest was just over 2.5 lbs. 3.5 hours on Sunday netted me 13 fish. 4 of them were right at that 2.5 lb mark. So much fun to keep pulling in the fish.
Fella, another good weekend at whale rock. Not exactly sure how many i caught over the weekend, but it more than two dozen. Easy to tell since I have more that two dozen pictures of fish, but didn't take pictures of all the fish I caught. As always the Craw baits are strong contenders for the best bait of the weekend, but a shakey head is right up...

As always the Craw baits are strong contenders for the best bait of the weekend, but a shakey head is right up there. Used the shakey head with both a trick worm to allow it to flow a little bit, and with a 3 inch dinger. Didn't seem to matter, the bass ate it up either way.
I got there early-ish, and the bite stayed strong until about 11.
Visited Whale Rock last night after work. Got there just after 5, and stayed until just after 7. Used a green pumpkin craw bait, and natural colored dinger. Both texas rigged with 1/4 oz bullet weight. Couldn't stop catching them. None of them were huge. All were between 1.5 and 2.5 lbs. A lot of fun to reel in.
Fished the front half of the lake this weekend. Got our early. Could see trout patrolling the shore line. Next weekend I'm thinking of breaking out a spinner or a spoon and trying to catch a trout or two. This weekend, caught the majority of my fish on craw baits or a stand up jig. Early on before the sun came over the hills, darker colors seemed to do better, afterwards, more natural.
The bite is still fairly light. I suspect it will be that way for another week or so until the water really warms up.
