Modesto Reservoir is an excellent bass fishing lake thanks to its numerous submerged trees, coves, and inlets. However, most only fish average about a pound, with few exceeding 4 lb.

Rainbow trout are typically stocked during the colder months, and like bass, most caught trout are 10-12 inch stocker size. The hope is that with continued stocking efforts, holdovers will remain throughout the summer months, and grow to trophy size.

Be aware that the reservoir attracts a water-skiing crowd in the summer, especially towards the northern end. For those seeking calmer waters for fishing, the southern end is recommended.
