Even so, the bass bite has been fair, mostly near the bridge, public launch, and back creeks on the north end. Finesse setups and small blade baits are pulling both smallmouth and largemouth, but most are under a pound. A couple of weeks of clear warm weather and the spring bass bite should bust wide open.
Shore anglers have picked up a few steelhead/trout on spinners. These are native fish, so catch-and-release is recommended.

Sonoma has been quiet since the storms hit a few weeks ago. Water temps are in the low 50s, and visibility is around 2 feet in most areas. Bass action is slow, but a few are being picked up off points or on submerged rock in 15-25 feet of water using shaky heads, drop-shots, and T-rigged worms. It’s primarily finesse fishing, although there’s a chance for a midday shallow spinnerbait bite if the sun is out. Hopefully, we’ll see better water clarity over the next few weeks.
A few anglers are tapping into the native trout (steelhead) action, but most are tight-lipped about their approach.
I was fishing for bass and got quite a surprise! Both caught on a Berkeley Minnotator HD Blue Gill, 2in, 1/16oz. Caught between the shoreline and the bridge pillar by the public boat ramp. This little lure was virtually indistinguishable within the schools of bait fish swimming in the top-water.
