Lake Hemet Fishing Report

Hemet Lake got a boost this week with 4,000 pounds of Mt. Lassen rainbow and lightning trout, aiming to fire up a slow trout bite. Anglers using Mice Tails, floating nightcrawlers, and PowerBait are hooking fish in most spots around the lake, as the trout seem to have spread out fast. These Lassen fish are bigger and higher quality than the typical CDFW stockers, with vibrant pink meat. Many limits are reported, so get there soon!

Lake Hemet received three trout stockings from CDFW in October, and there’s been plenty of action for bait soakers. The big news is a surprise stock from Lake Hemet Campground on November 5, featuring beautiful Mt. Lassen and Lightning Trout. The boat ramp is always a hot spot for shore casters. Also worth noting, Hemet now allows float tubes, but check their website for regulations before launching.

Small bass continue to be the mainstay for anglers right now, though a 7+ pounder was reportedly landed in late August. Grubs and small swimbaits have been the most effective, while poppers are producing a few fish in the calm coves on the east side.

The feature fishery at Hemet right now is carp. A contest is held every Sunday through October 13, aiming to remove as many carp from the lake as possible. It's been a fun event for anglers of all skill levels, with prizes awarded.
