Big Bear fishing is picking up for both trout and bass as the weather and water warms. Trout action has been very good from both shore and boat, with anglers pulling limits and hooking into some thick holdovers. Shore casters are soaking mice tails and PowerBait on long leaders, launching casts as far as they can. Boats are getting it done with 1/4 oz jigs and spinners, finding fish 20–30 feet down in open water.
The bass bite is starting to wake up with water temps creeping into the low 50s. Both largemouth and smallmouth are starting to push shallow in prep for the spawn. Hair jigs, spinnerbaits, and jerkbaits are all getting fish. Crappie action has also been surprisingly good... unexpected for this time of year.
