Water levels at Folsom have dropped significantly over the past month, and a 5 mph speed limit is now in place for all boats. Reports mention that trolling action for rainbows (and kings) is sporadic, with most fish caught between 15 feet and the surface. Running spoons or speedy shiners in red or gold at 2.6-2.9 mph has been most effective. The fish are very spread out though and tough to find. It’s definitely a quality-over-quantity game right now.
Spotted bass are still biting, but their patterns seem to shift weekly. Most are holding near rocky points in about 20 feet of water. Drop-shots and deep-diving crankbaits are producing, but keep an eye on your sonar—if you spot a bait ball, toss a small swimbait or jerkbait. Chances are, you’ll get a few quick bites.
