Surrounded by the Eldorado National Forest, Loon Lake is 600 acres of pristine water that hosts a good cold-water fishery for rainbow and brown trout.

Throughout the open season, Loon Lake is stocked with 12-inch rainbow trout. Fishing is best during mornings and evenings when the water is at its clearest and before the afternoon winds pick up. The Lake is also home to a healthy population of brown trout, typically around 3 pounds, with some growing even larger.

Keep in mind, the bottom of Loon Lake is filled with large granite rocks, which can make downrigger fishing very tricky. And the lake's opening can often be pushed back do to lingering heavy snow from the previous winter.
