Contra Loma Reservoir Fishing Report

Bass are moving up, with pre-spawn fish pushing into the shallows as water temps warm. Males are already tight to the bank, and big females are easing in slowly behind them. Senkos, T-rigged worms, underspins, and even glide baits fished close to the weed line are drawing aggressive strikes from fish up to 6-7 pounds. Lassen trout are still being stocked by E.B. Parks, and limits are coming to anglers soaking PowerBait or working spoons near the ramp. Look for a solid crappie bite to fire off here shortly.

Trout fishing at Contra Loma is heating up after recent CDFW and Lassen plants, with anglers landing limits of 12 inchers with a few quality fish mixed in. Mice Tails, Mepps spinners, and Garlic PowerBait are getting hit, especially along the west side. Anglers are dealing with quite a bit of grass near shore, but steeper areas have cleaner access. Bass action is slow as the water is still chilly, but a few 2-3 pounders were reported using shad-style soft plastics like Flukes last week.

Bass are spread all over Contra Loma, and anglers are finding fish using various methods. Some are targeting weeds with frogs or punching creature baits and other soft plastics into the heavy cover. Others are focusing on the outer edges of weeds and points with crankbaits and swimbaits. Either way, the fish aren’t giant, but there’s action to be had. Catfish are being caught off the dock on the north end with anchovies and other cut bait. Bluegill remain active, with the opportunity for bigger slabs this time of year.
